Sticky Wall Art

Sticky Wall Art is an easy activity to put together that creates an interactive collage experience for your little one.

All you need is:
- Clear contact paper
- Tape (I used masking tape, you may feel more comfortable using painter's tape)
- Various collage materials (cellophane, stars, ribbon, paper, felt, straws)

The pictures below show how I set the sticky wall art up and presented it to my son. The first picture has the clear contact taped to our wall with the sticky side facing out. However I felt it lacked distinction and decided to add a border of blue paper to help distinguish between the wall and the contact paper.

The collage materials started out in separate containers and the stars were the big favourite. They didn't stay this neat for long though and are now all mixed up but still easy and fun to use!

The best thing about this activity is that it is not a 'do it once and it's done' type thing. The contact paper has been on our wall for two weeks now and is still sticky enough to add new materials to or pick off and move what is already on there.

My son has found his way over to the sticky wall art every day without fail since we have had it, sometimes not for long, but it is enough to capture his attention during the day and fill in a few minutes quite independently.

This activity is great for fine motor skills as small objects are picked up, stuck to the wall and then occasionally taken back off (the straws were the best for that). It is also a good way to explore sticky and non-sticky as they explore where things stay and where they don't (the contact versus the wall). Language can also be developed as you talk about colours and positions and best of all, it really is fun! Just ask our adult visitors that happily sat and added to the collage!

This activity can also be done on a window which allows the extra exploration of light, unfortunately we do not have access to any windows in our house at a level that could be easily reached by a toddler thus why ours is on a wall.

Have you tried this with your child before? If so, what materials did they like best to stick to the contact paper?

Happy playing!

Love the materials you used for this. So colourful. I did a similar thing at Christmas last year in a Christmas tree shape so it was like she was decorating the tree!
